Welcome to the Blog!

Welcome to the University of Waterloo Concrete Toboggan team's official blog! Here you'll see our latest updates as we construct a 300 pound concrete and steel toboggan to compete in the 2014 Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race, hosted in London, Ontario.

For our first post, here are some of the skilled students we have on board who will be contributing technical knowledge to this blog:

Hi! I'm Billy Eakkachaichanvet, the Business Logistics Lead. My role is to execute the business side of the team, such as managing sponsor relations, budgeting and coordinating marketing elements such as this website. I joined the team in the 2012 year because I found the idea of using my studies in civil engineering (i.e. reinforced concrete) in a competitive application (a race) intriguing.

  1. Oh hey there indeed! I'm Fraser Lord, the spirit captain. My role is to oversee and lead the development and incorporation of our team theme into the presentation of ourselves and literally every other aspect of our team! I also ensure that the team atmosphere and morale is strong and organize events to bring everyone together into our Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race(GNCTR) family. I joined the team in 2011 and have been loving it ever since!

  2. Hi! I'm Kate Black, the Spirit Logistics Lead. I help Fraser do everything he mentioned in his post. I joined the team in 2012 and can't wait for the competition in 2014!

  3. Hi there y'all. I'm Bruce Keeling, the Frame Team Lead. My role is to oversee the development of the frame, which ties the components of our sled together as well as enclosing the riders with a rollcage.

I joined the team in 2012 because, whilst living with Fraser Lord I was inundated with the GNCTR chants ("you don't make friends with pants on" and the like) after the 2011 competition. I was made to realize the competition is quite the incredible social event. Furthermore I thought making Boggan burgers was much better than class, and figured it'd be cool to design something which I would actually see realized. Thus I jumped on board and haven't looked back since.

  4. Hello! My name is Brendon Simon, I am the the Business Captain for the 2014 team! We have been hard at work preparing for the 2014 race in London. Look for exciting new developments in the coming weeks from all our groups, we are sure you will be as thrilled as we are.

I joined the team in 2011, and have enjoyed gaining valuable skills in design, construction and business. Concrete Toboggan is a fun and rewarding experience, we always look for students to join!

I am off to do some business stuff now (watching Justified, a GREAT SHOW).
